Humane Letters (Literature and History)
Only through discussion, through the meeting of minds different than our own, can we plumb the depths o great literature. In a humane letters course we grapple with great books (letters) which present to us some of what it means to be human (humane), including fictional and non-fictional. This is a seminar (discussion) course in which read and discuss the chosen books together, delving into the stories, the characters, the tensions, and unpacking all we can from them.

Students will compose responses to prompts by Mr. Goodrich and will receive feedback and coaching on their compositions.

In addition to the weekly meetings, they will have access to course-specific videos to guide them in interacting with and thinking deeply about the readings. These videos will also include exercises to form writing and expression on these works. Finally, this course will include two formal writing assignments, each tailored to the respective age groups.
